The Storyman will come to your scouting adventure
whether it is a Blue and Gold banquet, a camp out, or any
Weblos, Boy
Scouts or Girl Scouts event. Scouting has a special place
in his heart
and he offers his services for free to any scouting district
if it is in the local Fort Worth or Mid-Cities areas. If your
event is near the Fort Worth area it will only cost gas and
food, about fifteen dollars normally. For this minimal amount
of cash
he has traveled to all of the major Fort Worth and Dallas
District campsites including Worth Ranch. If you are further
outside of Fort Worth area and wish to have Mr. Whitaker perform
at a
scouting
function please contact him and see what can be worked
out.

In his youth Mr. Whitaker served as a scout
of Troop 34 at St. George's Catholic church from 1962-66
and his father raised three boys in scouting and served as an assistant
scoutmaster and
troop cook for over ten years.
The Storyman spent 4 years as Assistant scoutmaster of Troop
336 while his own son, Joey Whitaker, spent 5 years in scouting
. Mr. Whitaker served under
Tony
West as Scoutmaster and Carl Weber as First Asst. Scoutmaster. Later Carl
took over the troop as Scoutmaster and Mr. Whitaker served
as his first Asst. Scoutmaster
for two years. Mr. Whitaker remains the official storyteller for troop 336
and he has remained affiliated with troop 336 and continues to be involved
with the
troop meetings and camp outs.
The Storyman believes that storytelling is a vital part
of scouting and should be included in scouting activities
when appropriate. In 2002 Mr. Whitaker
performed at over 30 scouting activities, most of these being Weblo related.
Every year
his number of scouting performances for all kinds of events has increased.
Whether you have a theme that you would like
to reinforce for a banquet or a historical theme that has
been the focus of the scouts in
recent months, or if you are just looking for some good old
fashion entertainment and/or ghost stories, contact the
StoryMan to discuss your ideas.
