US and Texas History Storytelling Programs
Civil War Veteran
Mr. Whitaker's "Civil War Veteran" is a program that will put excitement back into history.
This presentation is based on the biography written by Sam Watkins in 1880, titled Company AYTCH.
Through the voice of Sam Watkins the age of the American Civil War comes dramatically to
life in a vivid and personal way. History is never boring in the hands of this accomplished performer.
This program is combined with an historical display which will help the audience to see and understand the nature of this
war in a personal way.
(5th grade through High School - Presentation depends on grade level)
Texas Ranger
This storytelling presentation is built around the life and experiences of Capt. Jack Hays.
Capt. Jack served in and around the San Antonio area, from 1836 to 1849.
Most of the standards that we associate with the Texas Rangers of today are based on his own personal practices.
He was a fearless leader who fought side by side with his men. This program is recommended for 4th grade and up.
(Grade 4 and Up)
Texas Tales
The Storyman has studied and collected assorted tales since he began storytelling. His presentation of Tall Tales and Old West
folk tales will bring the old west alive.
Folk Tales are often a reflection of the times in which they were created, whether true or false.
So the rich variety of stories helps us to understand the mind set and life styles of a time now past.
This program is designed to be mostly funny and entertaining. Tall tales and folk stories enlist the dramatic flourish that storytellers
so enjoy when telling a good tale.
